Injured worker finds new career as construction safety officer

The reality of a workplace injury is that many people are never able to return to their previous jobs.

That was the case for carpenter Tarra Turner, who fell from scaffolding three years ago and pulverized her ankle, crushed a vertebra and broke her tibia.

Through terrible pain, multiple surgeries and personal tragedies, though, Turner has adjusted to life with her injuries. And she’s found a new career as a construction safety officer, working to make sure others aren’t injured in workplace accidents like hers.

The Journal of Commerce in Canada shares her uplifting story.
