Sign Online Petition Against Workers’ Comp Reform

Contacting your legislators and Gov. Bev Perdue directly is the most effective means of letting them know that you don’t support the insurance-led effort to reform workers’ compensation and rob injured workers of their rights.

Fellow attorney Jesse Shapiro, an ally in the fight against workers’ comp reform, has created an easy way for voters to speak out on this important issue. He’s created an online petition that will be sent to Gov. Bev Perdue, as well as members of the N.C. House of Representatives and the N.C. Senate.

I encourage you to add your name to the petition. Your letters, phone calls, email messages and this petition will send a strong message to our elected leaders in Raleigh that the people of North Carolina do not support this bad bill.

This bill is very bad news. I can not see how this bill helps ANYONE out except insurance companies and large corporations. This is a horrible thing to do to anybody, much less working class people. These people that are pushing this through should be ashamed of themselves and if they voted for this bill then they should not expect to get re-elected.

  2. Wayne Loy says:

I think it is a bad idea for this to happen. I have given over 36 years of service to one company, and now I am injured from my job and I have the right to continue the lifestyle I have for 36 years. Don’t put us out in a pasture that may or may not have any grass in it.

First as a U.S. Navy Veteran I’m embarrassed with how our Government is being operated. The entire Health Care Reform has done Nothing to help the Previous Middle Class (who are all now in the Poverty Class) nor does it help the Unemployed. How can you honestly uphold a law that All People Must have health insurance when the Majority of the people are Now Below Poverty Level??? I know first hand that insurance companies Only Care about the Money that We The People willingly Hand over to the Insurance companies with a So Called Promise that Our Money will Be there When We Need it, But that is a Total LIE!!! I was told by my Long Term Disability Insurance Company, CIGNA, that it Was NOT My Money it was Their Money!!! I’m a Disabled Single Mom who Paid into my Long Term Insurance for 13 years and when my Neurologist placed me on Permanent Disability CIGNA only Paid me for 1 month and then Closed my Claim WithOut Notice to myself. I had to appeal from the month of August to January. They would NOT Tell me which medical information they required or was missing when my Doctor’s Staff showed me the that they had Faxed Everything and had Valid Conformation that it all had been faxed successfully. And, with all of this being said, and the Fact the CIGNA Insurance company making me experience the Unfair treatment of all insurance companies, I say/Demand that if our Elected Officials Care any for their Constituents then the Only Appropriate VOTE for Workers Compensation Insurance Bill is “NO”!!!
    Sincerely,
Permanently Disabled Single Mom Veteran -

I am a Safety and Health Professional and can not believe that NC would even consider doing this to people that risk their lives every time they go in to work. Their only want and need is to help the community. I am ashamed of NC!!!

  6. Gloria Herbin says:

I was injured on the job and now have a permanent painful condition that could affect the rest of my life. It was difficult to be treated fairly and with dignity with the current workers’ compensation and I can not imagine that anyone would actually think that House Bill 709 is advantageous to anyone other than big business. I pray to God that this bill is not passed because if will destroy the lives of ordinary people and first responders that will not only burden the tax payers but the innocent families of the injured. This bill is unconstitutional and makes you wonder where this country is headed. I’ve always been proud to be American but this bill is the most un-American bill that I have ever seen. What happens to our individual rights if this bill is passed? Tell everyone that you know that if they are ever unfortunate enough to be injured, they will not be treated fairly or even humanely under this bill. It serves itself only and will deny them of the medical care they deserve and should be graciously afforded without question. This can not happen in America. Just remember, you could be injured on the job…it can happen.
    STAND UP AND SAY NO!
    Sincerely,
    Gloria

Is not part of this bill a violation of HIPPA. No one has the right ot view or have access to papers unless a person gives informed, signed consent? Our dear comp insurance companies are a joke. My family member still suffers 3 years later due to their dragging their feet. Then they send you to doctors who are the low end of knowledge. No wonder those docs with any knowledge agrees to take comp patients– payed little and those that do, do exactly and as little as the insuirance company says. They put off testing and go the short path and the patient still suffering. I could go on but I think you get the picture, In the end all they do is put a bandage on it and now they want to make the hurt person suffer more- hardly fair.

  8. Terry Kiestler says:

this bill is hogwash, if you are injured on the job , you are entitled to your benefits. this is another Bev Perdue mess

  9. Mary Barton says:

My husband worked as a public school teacher and coach for nearly 30 years, and due to an injury while volunteering for an after school activity, he has been in constant pain for 10 years. It has been a life change for us both with his stress and disabilities. We have to hire help for services he would have done, and I can’t imagine what life would be like if along with this our finances would not cover his meds and doctor bills. I am aging too and have retired from teaching after 30 years service. How are we to survive? Please vote NO to this bad bill!

  10. Coline Graves says:

I was injured in 2005 leaving my place of employment after work. This injury caused me to be out of work numerous times due to several operations to repair hand and knee damage. If it had not been for Worker’s Comp providing benefits during my medical leaves, I would not have been able to take care of my financial obligations, as I live alone and have no one else to depend on. Cutting this program for the working class would be a wrong, as so many people need to know that because they got injured on the job, they are not being held responsible and penalized. The assistance would be there for them if they find themselves in a position where they need to be out for surgery or just to heal from their injury. If an employee can work for years and give their best performance on the job for that company, then the company should make sure that their workers are compensated when in need, due to an unforseen and unfortunate injury. Without worker’s compensation helping me, I don’t know what I would have done, as being injured is no picnic, it’s painful, stressful and works on your physical and mental well being. I “BEG” you please do not cut this program.
    Thank you,
    Coline Graves

  11. Darlene Eller says:

Please vote no to bill 709.
This bill will only North Carolina workers and their families. It is the worst thing I have ever heard. How can anyone even think that this is something worth looking at much less consider. VOTE NO to this bill.

  12. As a person formerly in this system, although closed, without the care from the services and without the continued medical assistance I would not be able to function. I am against this bill especially where it concerns the first responders and service personnel of this state and the everyday worker. We are not all the names we are referred to this is necessary care. I am totally against this bill. Vote NO

  13. Michael Grant says:

Basically I can say is that I am very dissapointed that they would even consider taking money from an injured worker and their families. This bill should not ne allowed to go through. Looks like there will be another change of power next year in North Carolina. These goons apparently don’t get it.

  14. keith says:

please dont passed this bad bill.the insurance company dont need bailout. dont hurt injured workers. veto this bill.vote no

  15. Joyce says:

I am certainly against bill 709 passing. What is happening to America leaders. You are losing
sight of reality. One of these injured person may be your family members. Think about it. The leaders
were elected to improve the human race not tear it down.
