Seal of Social Security Disability Law Board Certified Specialist award

Blair has more than 19 years of experience practicing Social Security Disability law. He joined Deuterman Law in 2024 to represent clients in this growing practice area and to help expand the law firm’s footprint in the Triangle. He works out of Deuterman Law’s Durham office.

In addition to being a compassionate advocate for his clients, Blair is a recognized leader in Social Security Disability law in the state.

In 2010, he became one of a select group of board certified specialists in Social Security Disability Law in North Carolina. The N.C. State Bar offers this certification as a service to the public to help them identify lawyers who are most qualified to represent them. Board certified attorneys have demonstrated special knowledge, skill and proficiency in a particular area of the law.

Blair has served on the N.C. State Bar’s Social Security Disability Specialization Committee since 2020, and he has been the committee chair since 2023. He also has taught continuing legal education courses and written articles on professional best practices for legal journals.

Blair earned his juris doctorate, graduating magna cum laude from the N.C. Central University School of Law in 2005.

He attended Wake Forest University as an undergraduate, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology with a minor in communications.

Blair began practicing Social Security Disability law in 2005 with a high-volume personal injury practice, in Raleigh, starting out as lead attorney in the practice area and eventually becoming a partner.

In the year before joining Deuterman Law, Blair took a one-year sabbatical and worked as a contract attorney with Alisa Huffman Family and Elder Law in Cary. At the small firm, he worked on elder law, estate planning and estate administration cases, as well as Social Security Disability claims for his clients.

That sabbatical affirmed Blair’s passion for Social Security Disability law and enhanced his ability to represent his clients and help them navigate the complexities of the federal system.

Blair is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice Disability Advocacy Section. He also is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives (NOSSCR).

A native of Hallsboro in southeastern North Carolina, Blair now lives in Cary, where he is an active community volunteer.

He is chair of deacons at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, and is involved with a project to repurpose church property for affordable housing in the area. He has served as a member of the church’s Children’ Center Committee since 2017. He also sings in the church choir.

Previously, Blair was a board member of the Center for Volunteer Caregiving from 2013 to 2019. The Cary nonprofit provides volunteer services to older adults and adults with disabilities living independently in Wake County.

Blair’s hobbies include singing, playing the trumpet, photography, travel and fitness.

He is the father of a teenage daughter, and he has a cavapoo named Tilly.
