Prior to becoming a plaintiff’s attorney, Thomas worked for insurance companies and employers in workers’ compensation litigation. That experience has given him a unique perspective on how the other side handles claims. He is able to use this knowledge as a strategic advantage to fight hard and fight smart for his clients, ensuring their interests are protected.

Thomas is one of a select group of board-certified specialists in workers’ compensation law practicing in North Carolina.

Thomas grew up in Bertie County, N.C., as a pastor’s son. He is attuned to the needs of those in his community, and he understands how scary and frustrating the legal process can be for injured people and their families. He is committed to providing his clients accessible, responsive, individualized and unique attention with an ultimate goal of getting them the compensation, benefits and medical treatment they deserve.

Thomas graduated from Campbell University School of Law, cum laude, and served as the Symposium Editor for the Campbell Law Review. He won the Richard Lord Moot Court competition and served as the President of the Delta Theta Phi law fraternity. While in law school, he interned in workers’ compensation, corporate law, and Social Security Disability law.

Prior to joining Deuterman Law, Thomas was an attorney at Ricci Law Firm, P.A., in Greenville, where he represented clients in their workers’ compensation and personal injury cases. Previously, he was an associate attorney at Gallivan White & Boyd, P.A., Charlotte.

Thomas earned his undergraduate Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and a minor in accounting from N.C. State University. He worked as a financial analyst for a healthcare company before enrolling in law school.

Thomas is very involved in the state’s legal community. He has taught multiple workers’ compensation Continuing Education Classes for fellow attorneys. He also was an advisory board member to the North Carolina State Bar and is a graduate of the North Carolina Bar Association’s inaugural Public Service Academy in 2017. In 2023, he was named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers.

Thomas is a member of the  North Carolina Advocates for Justice Workers’ Compensation Section and the N.C. Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Section.

His involvement also extends to the local community. Thomas has served as a mentor for students interested in becoming attorneys, and he is a volunteer for North Carolina DECA, an organization that prepares high school students for the real world of business.

Thomas is a tenor singer in the Greenville Choral Society, which provides free concerts throughout Eastern North Carolina. He is the society’s president-elect and serves on its board of directors. He recently performed with the group at Carnegie Hall in New York.
