N.C. State Bar Certifies Deuterman Law Attorney Billie Guthrie As Specialist in Social Security Disability Law
(Greensboro, N.C.) – Deuterman Law Group Attorney Billie Guthrie has earned the status of Board Certified Specialist in Social Security Disability law. This designation is a testament to Guthrie’s expertise, her performance on behalf of clients and her reputation in the legal community.
The N.C. State Bar, through the Board of Legal Specialization, determines which attorneys statewide earn certification. To become legal specialists, attorneys must have practiced for a minimum of five years. They also must undergo peer review by other attorneys and judges, participate in continuing legal education in the subject matter, and pass a board exam.
The N.C. State Bar offers this certification as a service to the public to help them identify qualified lawyers to represent them. Board-certified attorneys have demonstrated special knowledge, skill and proficiency in a particular area of the law.
The Deuterman Law Group is proud to have another attorney earn board certification. On the Social Security Disability team, Managing Attorney Christine Burnside and associate attorney Blair Biser also are board certified. Deuterman Law president and founder Dan Deuterman, as well as Managing Attorney Zach Marquand, Senior Attorney Jack Waissen and associate attorney Thomas Lamm Jr. are board certified specialists in workers’ compensation.
As an attorney, Billie helps her clients navigate the complicated and often frustrating Social Security Disability system with compassion and empathy. She has a keen ability to connect with her clients and works hard to present their cases for the best possible outcomes.

Guthrie has been practicing Social Security Disability law for more than a decade. Before that, she worked in the mental health field as an administrator, policy advocate and social worker. She has devoted much of her professional life to legal and systemic changes to improve outcomes for disabled adults and people dealing with persistent mental health issues and homelessness.
Guthrie is an active community volunteer who believes in the power of service to others.
She is the past president of the board of directors of Threshold, a psychiatric rehabilitation program in Durham. She is a member of the Durham, Orange and Wake County SOAR committees, which focus on building access to mainstream resources including disability benefits for people who are experiencing homelessness. She is a member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, serving on the executive committee of the Disability Section and chairs legislative efforts.
