As a 21-year veteran of the Army, attorney Aimee Robeson feels a kinship and a natural camaraderie with the clients she represents in their VA disability benefits claims.

She combines the viewpoint of someone who has served with deep legal expertise and experience in navigating the VA system to ensure her clients have the best outcomes.

Aimee is a determined and seasoned advocate for her clients, ensuring her fellow veterans receive the full range of disability benefits and medical care they earned with their military service.

Aimee’s military career began in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, then she transitioned to military intelligence, eventually earning the rank of Chief Warrant Office-3. A highly decorated soldier, she served at Joint Task Force-National Capital Region near Washington, D.C., at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo, and Fort Shafter in Hawaii, among other duty stations. In Afghanistan, she served with the Joint IED Defeat Organization, a combat support operation focused on countering Improvised Explosive Device (IED) threats.

As she was nearing her retirement date (after a 10-year active-duty career in the Army and 11 years with the Army National Guard), Aimee began thinking about her post-military career.

She enrolled in a program that would allow her to attend law school mostly online, while continuing to work full time.

She earned her juris doctorate, cum laude, in 2022 from the Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul, Minn.

Initially, Aimee thought she would practice family law, but a fellow veteran who she met during an outing with Irreverent Warriors encouraged her to consider VA Disability law. It was the ideal path, allowing her to help others and stay connected with the veterans community that is so important to her.

While she will be handling all types of VA disability cases at Deuterman Law, Aimee has a particular interest in claims involving military sexual trauma (MST). Oftentimes, these types of assaults are not reported in service, making the process of securing disability benefits more challenging.

In lieu of a formal report, the VA does accept evidence of behavioral changes, such as requested duty changes, changes in work performance, mental health visits or a mental health provider’s opinion. But these cases can be mishandled, leading to more denials and a lengthier approval process.

Before joining the Deuterman Law Group, Aimee worked for two other VA disability law firms where she represented hundreds of veterans with disability claims at VA regional offices, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

She also has experience in criminal law through an expungement externship with the Minnesota Attorney General’s office.

Her previous professional experience includes work as a technical project manager with BI Worldwide in Edina, Minn., and as a business analyst with Willis Towers Watson in Minneapolis.

She also worked as a program manager for the Department of Defense’s Joint Interagency Task Force National Capital Region in Arlington, Va. The task force coordinates with federal and civilian agencies and disaster response teams in the Washington, D.C. area, on security, terrorism response, and prevention.

Throughout her Army career, Aimee earned many military honors. These include the Meritorious Service Medal, four Army Commendation Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, four Good Conduct Medals, and two Armed Forces Reserve Medals with M Device.

She also earned a NATO Medal, two National Defense Service Medals, the Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, a Meritorious Unit Citation, and an Overseas Service Ribbon.

She also received a Knowlton Award, which recognizes U.S. Army intelligence professionals for their support and significant contributions to the Military Intelligence Corps.

Aimee earned a Master of Arts in Intelligence Studies & Cyber Analytics in 2017 from American Military University in Charlestown, W. Va. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Communications from University of Phoenix in 2009. She also has an Associate of Arts in Human Resource Management from Hawaii Pacific University.

She is a member of the Minnesota State Bar and National Organization for Veterans’ Advocates (NOVA). She is a VA accredited attorney and admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC).

In her free time, Aimee enjoys travel and reading. She is also active with Irreverent Warriors, a group that is committed to tackling veteran suicide. They organize hikes and other events to promote connection, camaraderie, and community among former service members.

Aimee also volunteers at her local library weekly, helping kids who are academically behind on reading. Aimee is also a mentor for American Corporate Partners (ACP).

ACP is a national nonprofit organization connecting veterans and active-duty spouses with experienced mentors to help combat underemployment and assist with career guidance and development.

A native of South Dakota, Aimee lives in Florida and will be working remotely for the Deuterman Law Group. She has an adult son, Maximus, and two dogs: an English bulldog-Australian shepherd mix named Seamus and a husky mix named Carl, who is an ADA service dog.
