2000, N.C. State Courts
Attorney Christine Latona began her legal career on the defense side, representing insurance companies and employers in workers’ compensation cases. But her empathy and a desire to help injured people led her to switch sides.
Christine has more than 20 years of experience representing injured and disabled people in their workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability claims. She is an experienced, skilled and passionate advocate, dedicated to making a difference in the lives of those who are hurt and suffering. She joined the Deuterman Law Group’s Social Security Disability team in 2025, working out of the Wilmington office.
As someone who was born with a congenital hip defect that threatened her mobility, Christine understands the physical and financial uncertainties her clients are facing. Her mother, a factory worker, hurt her back on the job, then reinjured it at work and eventually was approved for Social Security Disability benefits at age 55. These personal experiences have shaped Christine’s empathy and how she works with clients.
Christine earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a concentration in English Literature and a Bachelor or Arts degree in History from the University of Pittsburgh, graduating summa cum laude. She graduated from the Wake Forest University School of Law in 2000 in the top 20 percent of her class.
After law school, she worked on workers’ comp defense as an associate attorney at McAngus, Goudelock & Courie, PLLC, in Charlotte. She moved to the plaintiff’s side in her next job at Campbell & Associates in Charlotte. There, she worked as a workers’ comp attorney and mediator and developed the firm’s Social Security Disability department.
Most recently, she worked at Martin, Jones, & Piemonte in Charlotte as a Social Security Disability Hearing Attorney. She is also the co-owner of Ballantyne Advanced Chiropractic in Charlotte with her husband, who is a chiropractor.
Her previous professional experience includes Argos Health in Rockford, Ill., where she was vice president of ERISA Center for Excellence. She also worked as an e-discovery contract attorney for Consilio Services in Charlotte.
Christine has taken on leadership roles in several professional organizations, including the N.C. Advocates for Justice (NCAJ) and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives (NOSSCR).
She serves as secretary of NCAJ’s Disability Advocacy Section through the end of the 2025 fiscal year, then will take on the role of vice chair. She served as the NCAJ’s Education Co-Chair 2023-24 and Membership Chair from 2022-23. She is a past member of the NCAJ’s Women’s Caucus.
Christine was a speaker at the NCAJ’s fall 2023 conference and the NOSSCR 2023 Annual Conference, presenting a CLE on cross examining vocational experts. She also has spoken as part of the Healthcare Financial Management’s Southwestern Ohio Chapter’s Lunch & Learn series.
She is a trained superior court mediator and has volunteered with Wills for Heroes through the N.C. Bar Foundation. Her other civic involvement includes the Alpha Delta Pi Alumni Association and Dress for Success Charlotte, an organization that helps women reenter the workforce.
In her free time, Christine enjoys running and taking cooking classes.
She divides her time between Charlotte and Wilmington, where she lives with her husband and their dog Nikko, a Shiba Inu.
