Financial Hardship While on Workers’ Compensation

So, we see a lot of worker’s compensation cases. Look, we understand you’re you’re out of work, you’re hurting and you’re hurting financially. Because even if everything is going right, in your workers’ compensation case, you don’t get full lost wages.

When you’re all workers’ comp, right. You only get a partial amount. And most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck. So even when you’re getting your lost wage benefits through workers’ comp, we frequently see people struggling to make ends meet.

The Struggle to Fill the Financial Gap on Workers’ Compensation

And when people are struggling to make ends meet, they try to think of ways to fill in that gap. Right? Because we want to feed our kids. We want to make our car payments. We want to keep the lights on. And so that’s all understandable. But when you’re disabled and out on workers’ compensation, you cannot earn money through work.

When Good Intentions Risk Your Workers’ Compensation Case

Even something like starting a business. I had a client once that, and we didn’t know that this was happening, but they had work restrictions and they couldn’t do anything physical, but they thought, well, I can put birthday signs up in people’s yards.

And so he and his wife started a business where they were putting birthday signs up in people’s yards, didn’t pay a whole lot of money, but it was helping them make up that difference.

Why Legal Advice Matters for Workers’ Compensation Cases

Right. And we can all understand that. But it’s something that you can’t do because in workers’ comp, you’re getting the payments that you’re getting because you’re disabled and that means you can’t do anything else. But as in any case, it’s always important to consult with your lawyer.
