Honoring Those with Invisible Disabilities
Hi, I’m Christine Burnside and I’m a Social Security Disability attorney. This week is Invisible Disabilities Week, and we will be putting a spotlight on typically invisible disabilities. So often people make judgements about other people because they look healthy, but you can’t see pain, you can’t see depression, and you don’t know how hard someone might’ve struggled just to get dressed and make it to the store that day. We want to honor those with invisible disabilities this week. When your symptoms can’t be seen, it can be hard to be believed, not just by others, but by those in the medical profession. The stigma that disability is reserved for those who need a cane or a walker is harmful and needs to end. Please join us this week in honoring our friends who are suffering from things like chronic migraines, fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, narcolepsy, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and so many countless other medical conditions that you can’t see just by looking.
